Kansas City

This weekend we had the wonderful opportunity to visit

We met Ethan's entire family in Kansas City to take a tour of the temple. The temple is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I have such a strong testimony of the importance of temples in our lives. We had such a fun time with family and enjoying all the LDS sites in that area. It was one spectacular weekend! A big thanks to Ethan's parents (and Brian) for setting it all up!

Why Mormons Build Temples

I am so grateful to have the knowledge of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am especially grateful that through my membership I was able to be sealed to my family for eternity in the temple!

a few notes about life

Do you ever have those moments where you take a look at your life and think "Wow, I love being me!" Its usually the little things that cause me to realize this. I feel so blessed to be doing exactly what I have always wanted to do each and every day. I have the best job in the world! It constantly pushes me to be better, tests my every skill or lack thereof, keeps me entertained and fulfills me in every way. I seriously love being a Mom/homemaker! I like the fact that it has its super challenging moments, how else would I grow? I think the worst job would be the one that doesn't allow for growth. So here a few notes on things I've come to realize this past week about my job.

I should feel blessed that my son wants to spend every waking moment with me because that means he loves me. So I should count myself lucky when he insists we build a hide-out in the kitchen because I've decided to spend the day baking. I pray that our relationship is always strong and that he never grows out of spending time with me. But just in case I'm going to try my best encourage mommy-Landon time.
The hardest part about being pregnant is when little man is begging me to play with him in physically difficult ways for me, like playing in his hide-out. Ya, that lasted all of 5 minutes before I was in pain!

Ethan got tickets to a hockey game this past weekend

(I didn't realize I was in the picture or else I would have been smiling)
We had a good time at the game, but we only lasted an hour before we headed home. Usually Landon loves going to sports games but the music was really bothering him. He kept telling me it was too loud. He has become pretty aware of music, he prefers "nice music"and will tell me that a song is not nice and to change it. I have been so amazed at this, I try really hard to have only good music playing but sometimes when listening to Pandora a song will come on that he will quickly tell me to turn off. So I have learned that when he is around to keep it classical, church, or kid tunes. Who knew that my 3-year-old would be setting such a great example and such high standards for me. I am truly understanding why Christ says to be as little children!

We love Wichita! Ethan and I were just talking about how we really hope that we get stay here for a long time. I never thought I would love living in Kansas this much, but it really is unlike any place I've ever lived. It's the perfect place to raise a family. One of the many great things about living here is its proximity to everything. Right now we live across the street from a huge park, it doesn't matter that we don't really have a yard to play in because we have an awesome park so close. Today we had a picnic at the park and caught butterflies!
Tuesdays are Ethan's work from home days so it was extra special to be with our favorite man! And it saved me from having to try and run after butterflies.
They had a lot of fun and were able to catch 4 butterflies.
When we got home we put all the butterflies in a big plastic container. Little man set them all free before I got a chance to take a picture of them.

I am just adoring our weather! I laid out on the picnic blanket and soaked up some Vitamin D while they hunted butterflies. I cannot think of a better way to spend lunch time. Its moments like these that remind me why I love my job so much! Or like tonight when in the middle of watching WordWorld cuddled up on the couch Landon says "I want to go lay in bed." Realizing he is really tired I tell him to just go potty first then he can hop in bed. But then after he goes potty he tells me "I need to make my teeth clean first." So we brush his teeth and he hops into bed, but then quickly sits up and says "Oh first we need to read scriptures and then pray." Even though he was super tired he did not want to miss one part of bedtime routine. Yet again I am taught by my 3-year-old. I am so proud of the person he is becoming.

So one more thing before I close this blog. Today, I decided to give the bathtub a real good scrubbing. Because of the size of my belly, lately my way of cleaning the bathtub/shower area is to spray it down with some good disinfectant let it soak then rinse. But today I felt like it was beginning to get some soap scum buildup, so I needed to pull out the scrubber. Now I have been battling with getting the bottom of the tub to be sparkley since the day I pulled up the rubber mat we had laid down and realized that it left marks. So for about ten months I have tried everything I could think of to get it to come up. But today I had complete success and boy did it feel good to get my tub sparkling!!! And what was the secret? a homemade mix! Because I don't like using a lot of harsh chemicals while I'm pregnant I've been relying a lot of my homemade cleaners. I used this scouring cleanser: combine 1/4 cup baking soda with 1 tablespoon liquid detergent then add just enough white distilled vinegar to give it a thick but creamy texture. Then I used a scouring pad and scrubbed away all the scum! I made Ethan admire the tub before he left for school, I was just too excited to keep it to myself!

Easter Fun!

Having my parents only 6 hours away is the best!
They came up to celebrate Easter with us, which was a blast!
We started the weekend off by going to the zoo.
Landon only gets to feed the animals when Daddy comes with us so he was excited to feed the sheep. There weren't as many people there, so the sheep swarmed him and backed him into a corner.
It was fun to watch!

And what is Easter without a little egg hunt,
Little man was so funny, instead of just putting the egg in his bucket he opened each one as he found it and dumped the goodies inside and if there was a toy of some sort he immediately gave it to Grandpa to demonstrate how it worked.

And of course we decorated some eggs
Landon helped for all of 3 seconds and the men weren't into it,
so these were all done by my mom and me.
the blue one that says "art" actually says Carter :)
We blew out these eggs, so I'm hoping to keep them and just add to them each year. We had a lot of fun making these!

Don't worry the men had their own fun, their new tradition is to go golfing each visit. They went for the first time together in Dallas and had such a great time they made sure to go this visit as well and weather permitting each visit from here on out!

All the fun that comes with Easter is nothing compared to the real reason why we celebrate this Holiday in the first place, the Resurrection of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Without our Savior there would be no resurrection and there would be no way for our sins to be cleansed, to be made worthy to enter our Father's Kingdom someday.

Here is a video my church put out: "He is Risen"
It is impossible for me to watch this and not be moved, I am so eternally grateful that he sacrificed his immortality. I love my Savior and am so glad for my relationship with him and the knowledge I have of his saving grace!

Lucky

meet Lucky
(he's in the cup)

Ethan caught this grasshopper and Landon named him Lucky. He was so excited by his new friend he then asked his Daddy to catch him a bird, haha. No worries no attempt was made to catch a bird.
And Lucky was allowed to go back home before the day was over. We decided that he probably missed his family so Landon let him free. Then they caught an ant he named Rex, he was also set free later that day. It was an adventurous Sunday afternoon!

Spring has Sprung

We decided to kick off spring by taking a little weekend getaway to Dallas.

Ethan and I were able to leave little man with my parents and spend the day just the two of us. We went to the temple, ate yummy Mexican food, went shopping and then ended the date with ice-cream! It was a great day with my love!

On Saturday my parents took us to the Dallas Arboretum
It was Soo gorgeous with all the newly bloomed flowers!
So of course we had to take tons of pictures...
the biggest challenge of the day was to try and take pics of a very active 3 year-old

I'm very pregnant in these pictures :)
